Bulova Reduces Lunar Pilot to 41mm for Black Hole Edition
Bulova has introduced a new 41mm limited‑edition “Black Hole” version of its Lunar Pilot chronograph, referencing the obscure story of astronaut David Scott’s backup Bulova watch worn during Apollo 15. The watch features a special Musou black dial that absorbs 99.4 % of light, matte black PVD‑plated case and bracelet, grey Super‑LumiNova‑filled indexes, and a blue‑glowing night‑time hand, all powered by an NP20 high‑precision quartz chronograph movement. It is limited to 6,000 pieces, each presented in a “Black Hole” box with a travel pouch and a travel clock inspired by the Apollo 15 lunar capsule instrument. The release follows Bulova’s 2016 modern reinterpretation of the original Lunar Pilot, which was originally a 45mm piece, and subsequent size variations such as a 43.5mm edition in 2023. By reducing the case size to 41mm, Bulova aims to address market concerns about the watch’s oversized feel while honoring the historical connection to the Apollo mission. The timepiece is currently priced at $1,650 and celebrates the “black‑hole” concept of lost information, symbolising the decades‑long obscurity of the astronaut’s backup watch.
Buying Time Analysis: This story highlights the historic significance of Bulova’s watch as the hidden astronaut’s timepiece on Apollo 15, illustrating how its rediscovery fills a gap in space‑exploration history and underscores the brand’s enduring legacy in precision timing.
