Fears Introduces the Arnos Opera Black: A Dress‑Code Inspired Dial
Fears has expanded its Arnos collection with the new Opera Black, a rectangular stainless‑steel watch that draws its design from classic black‑tie attire. The dial features a polished black onyx canvas contrasted by a crisp white lacquer centre, white Roman numerals, and black‑gold pipette hands, creating a strong Art Deco aesthetic. Housed in a compact 22.6 mm × 33.5 mm × 8.4 mm case with a 40 mm lug‑to‑lug distance, the watch is water‑resistant to 30 metres and offers a comfortable fit thanks to gently curved crystal and caseback. Inside, the piece is powered by a modified Sellita SW1000‑1b automatic movement with 18 jewels, beating at 28,800 vph and providing a 46‑hour power reserve. It is available with either an Obsidian Black Epsom leather strap lined with blue Alcantara or a black grosgrain silk strap, both secured with a bespoke pin buckle. Priced at £4,350 (US$4,500 excl. tax), the Opera Black is not a limited edition and can be purchased through the Time+Tide Shop and select studios in London and New York.
Buying Time Analysis: The story highlights Fears’ revival of its historic brand through the introduction of the Arnos Opera Black, a formally inspired watch that merges classic British watchmaking heritage with modern design, reinforcing the company’s relevance and appeal in today’s luxury market.
