Hanhart’s Rare “Square by Square” Watch

The Square by Square, conceived by Marcus Wiedemann of Studio Supercreative for the 2025 Dubai Watch Week x Grail Watch Design Competition, reimagines Hanhart’s historic shaped watches with a modern, geometric aesthetic. Measuring 40 mm in length, 38 mm in width, and 10.9 mm thick, the stainless‑steel case features a domed sapphire crystal that extends to the edges, a recessed hexagonal crown, and water resistance to 100 m. The watch is offered in two dial options—deep blue sunburst or mother‑of‑pearl—both with a stepped flange, steel‑coloured applied numerals, and fully polished skeletonised hands that form a diamond shape at 12 o’clock. It is powered by a Sellita SW1000‑1‑B automatic movement, delivering 28,800 vibrations per hour, a 46‑hour power reserve, and regulation within 0 to +8 seconds per day. Only six prototypes will be produced, three in each dial variant, with a choice of polished or sandblasted matte finishes, making the piece a limited‑edition concept rather than a mass‑produced model. Each prototype is priced at EUR 1,890, and interested collectors can register their interest directly with Hanhart. The design emphasizes a blend of sharp geometric planes and softened curves, creating dynamic reflections that change with the viewing angle, while the high‑quality materials and meticulous engineering underscore the brand’s reputation for bold, pilot‑inspired timepieces.

Buying Time Analysis: The Hanhart Square by Square concept showcases innovative reinterpretation of historic shaped watches, highlighting cutting‑edge design, limited‑edition exclusivity, and technical challenges that push horological craftsmanship forward.
