Independent Atelier debuts Project Tai Yu

Independent Atelier has announced the launch of Project Tai Yu, a limited edition watch honoring the legacy of Kiu Tai Yu, a pioneer in Chinese high-end independent watchmaking. Founder Benjamin Hui, a dedicated watch collector, has recreated Tai Yu’s original Millennium watch in a run of only 25 pieces. The watch features a case made of 18k yellow gold, measuring 35mm in diameter, and incorporates intricate design elements such as engraved lugs filled with red lacquer and a knurled crown. The dial showcases a mix of black porcelain enamel along with dual sections for the exposed balance wheel and hour/minute subdial, adorned with inscriptions in Chinese symbols that highlight the watch's cultural significance. The automatic movement, named IATY-01, takes inspiration from Tai Yu's original design while integrating modern enhancements, such as improved escapement and shock protection. Each watch is sold with two straps in black and red, accompanied by a yellow gold pin buckle. Limited to 25 pieces, the Project Tai Yu is priced at CHF 30,500, making it a unique offering for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This initiative not only preserves Kiu Tai Yu’s legacy but also showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of independent watchmaking in China.
