“It’s a watch that just gets on with the job” – Ontic founder on debut collection
British watch brand Ontic has introduced its debut collection, the Utility 40, a solar-powered titanium tool watch designed for reliability in challenging conditions. Founded by former Mountain Rescue volunteer John Hickling, Ontic aims to create a no-nonsense instrument watch for professionals and enthusiasts who value functionality over aesthetics. The 40mm Utility 40 features a hardened TiX titanium case, which is lighter and more durable than steel, and is resistant to the usual wear and tear associated with mechanical watches. The watch is powered by a Swiss-made Ronda Solartech 215 movement that charges from both natural and artificial light, ensuring it can run for up to eight months in darkness without the need for battery changes. Designed for legibility and functionality, the Utility 40 comes with a solar-textured dial, ceramic indices, and a unidirectional bezel, making it suitable for various applications, including diving and everyday wear. With prices starting at $799, Ontic offers four sub-collections tailored to different uses, including a series that supports UK Mountain Rescue teams.
