Rolex price rally loses momentum

The luxury watch secondary market continued its steady recovery in the third quarter of 2026, with Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe emerging as the strongest performers. Chrono24’s Quarterly Dial report shows its ChronoPulse Index rising 0.7% from July to September, reaching a three‑year high of 1,471 points and delivering an annual gain of 7.5%, while Rolex lagged behind, slipping 0.2% in the same period despite remaining 6% above its previous year’s level. Morgan Stanley and WatchCharts both note an uneven rebound, attributing Rolex’s weaker performance to stagnant demand and a near‑20% increase in inventory across the major brands. Vacheron Constantin posted the most impressive gains, with prices up 6.7% in Q3, 8.2% over six months and 17.7% over twelve months, while Patek Philippe recorded a 3% quarterly rise and a 17% year‑on‑year appreciation, driven largely by strong steel Nautilus models. Other brands showed mixed results: Audemars Piguet, Cartier, and Panerai posted modest increases, whereas TAG Heuer, Omega, and Breitling experienced declines or modest growth depending on the tracker. Overall, the market is moving higher after years of price falls, but the recovery remains uneven, favoring brands with distinctive designs and strong collector demand.

Buying Time Analysis: The story highlights a divergent recovery in the luxury watch secondary market, showing that while most high-end brands are regaining value, Rolex’s price stagnation signals potential shifts in demand and inventory dynamics, making it a key indicator for investors and collectors.
