Seiko's Most Popular Affordable Chronograph Just Got a Colorful Upgrade

Seiko has introduced three new solar chronographs to the Speedtimer lineup for 2026, specifically the SSC961, SSC963, and SSC965. These models are designed for regular production rather than limited editions, allowing for a long-term presence in the catalog. Each watch features a stainless steel case measuring 39mm in diameter and a matching stainless steel bracelet, maintaining the classic sports chronograph aesthetic. The key distinction among the trio lies in their dials, with the SSC961 showcasing a silver dial, the SSC963 offering a salmon dial, and the SSC965 presenting a surf green dial, each providing unique personality while adhering to the established design language. Powering these watches is Seiko’s V192 solar quartz movement, eliminating the need for battery changes and supporting a familiar three-register layout for chronograph functions. The tachymeter bezel, a nod to the Speedtimer’s racing heritage, varies slightly among the models, with black bezels on the SSC961 and SSC963 and a brushed steel bezel on the SSC965. Durability features include a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and water resistance of up to 100 meters, making them suitable for everyday wear. Pricing details have yet to be announced, but expectations suggest they will fall within the $700-$800 range.
