Vacheron Constantin launches new collection inspired by Louvre masterpieces
Vacheron Constantin has introduced four new watches as part of the Métiers d’Art Tribute to Great Civilisations Collection, expanding the series to eight pieces. Each watch draws inspiration from masterpieces housed in the Louvre, featuring intricate dial designs that incorporate materials such as limestone sandstone, agate, dumortierite, onyx, and marble, as well as techniques like stone champlevé, enamel work, and micro‑mosaic. The time‑keeping function is powered by the VC C. 2460 G4/2 movement, which displays hours, minutes, day of the week, and date through four apertures instead of traditional hands. All eight watches are limited editions of fifteen pieces each, with the new references also capped at fifteen. The four new models celebrate the artistic heritage of Egypt, Assyria, Greece, and Rome. The Egyptian piece features a bust of Akhenaten set in limestone sandstone, the Assyrian watch depicts a lamassu with gold and stone detailing, the Greek watch presents Athena inspired by the Pallas of Velletri using marble and gold, and the Roman watch showcases the river god Tiber with marble and mosaic elements. Each watch required extensive hand‑craftsmanship, with dial components taking between 60 and 150 hours to create, reflecting Vacheron Constantin’s dedication to haute horlogerie and cultural homage.
