Swiss Watch Exports Turn Positive
Swiss watch exports have turned positive for the first time in two years, with overall sales rising by 1.7% year‑to‑date and the twelve‑month moving average increasing after a 9.1% surge in August. While the United States remains the largest market, exports there fell 8.3% year‑on‑year, contrasted by strong growth in the United Kingdom, which saw a 46% jump in August and a 10.5% increase year‑to‑date. The market showed mixed performance across price segments: units priced under CHF 200 grew by almost 15%, driving a near‑10% rise in export value, whereas the high‑end segment above CHF 3,000 saw value growth over 10% but only a 2.6% rise in units. India and Mexico were the only other regions with notable improvements, posting gains of 32% and 11% respectively.
Buying Time Analysis: The story marks the first time in two years that Swiss watch export figures have turned positive over a rolling 12‑month period, indicating a rebound in global demand and signaling a potentially strong growth year for the industry.
